Vacancy for Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer
Shalbourne Parish Council is seeking to appoint a Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO).
This part-time position has responsibility for:
- managing the Council’s finances,
- preparing meeting agenda and supporting papers,
- attending and providing regulatory advice at meetings, and
- taking minutes and completing administrative actions arising.
Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential to the role, as are the personal qualities of integrity, discretion, and impartiality. The postholder needs to be a good communicator, well organised and self-motivated, and confident with basic accounting, record-keeping, scheduling and correspondence skills.
The Council meets six times per year in the Village Hall normally starting at 7.30pm. The hours will vary but are estimated to average 3-6 per week. The hourly salary will be competitive and expenses, including travel, will be paid.
The post is home-based. There is no requirement for the Clerk to live in Shalbourne.
Shalbourne has just over 500 people on the electoral register. The membership of the Council is nine. In the current financial year, the Council’s income through the Council Tax is in the order of £10,000. More information about Shalbourne can be found on its website at www.shalbourne.org.
