Job Vacancy: Semington Parish Council Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer
Our Parish Clerk is moving away so we want to employ her replacement as soon as is practicable.
The job
This is a permanent position, 7 hours per week working from home, which can be worked flexibly. The council usually meets on the second or third Wednesday evening (1930 to 2130) of the month, though attendance at additional meetings may be required.
The pay range is £15.84 per hour to £19.66 per hour. Appointment point to this scale will be dependent on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
Duties will include:
- Administering all parish council meetings, including producing agendas, minutes and relevant papers;
- recording and managing all income and expenditure and on-line bank account monitoring;
- managing emails and parish council correspondence;
- completing the annual Internal and External audits and VAT claims;
- providing HMRC PAYE returns (if necessary);
- providing advice and guidance to councillors on statutory, legal and other matters;
- liaising with the Chair /Vice-Chair on Parish Council business.

The skills and experience
Candidates will have significant experience in administration, finance/book-keeping, and preferably government procedures and legislation relevant to a Parish Council. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook is essential. Ideally, we’d like to recruit a candidate qualified with the Certificate in Local Council Administration. However, if you do not have this, but are willing to work towards it, the Parish Council will offer support for training to enhance your skills and knowledge.
