Vacancy for Clerk / Responsible Financial Officer
Little Cheverell is a small village with a population of approx. 130 residents, located to the south of Devizes. The Parish Council is made up of 7 members, when all seats are full and has a precept requirement of £8,500 for 2025/6
The job is a part time role for a minimum of 5 hours per month (which will fluctuate in line with workload). Hours are worked flexibly, but the post‐holder must be available to attend the main Parish Council meeting every other month.
The position is home based, with the Parish Council providing a laptop. The candidate will require access to room/desk space, file storage space, and a broadband/phone connection. The Clerk is reimbursed for all consumable expenses which arise.
Salary for the position is in accordance with the National Joint Salary scale LC1, and will be dependent on qualifications and experience (subject to on-going review).
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, good levels of literacy, writing, numeracy and IT skills. A working knowledge of Parish Council and Local Government procedures is desirable but not essential. Appropriate on-going training will be provided for the right candidate, and they must be willing to undertake this.
Producing quality work with accuracy and precision is of utmost importance, as are personal qualities of integrity, discretion, objectivity, and impartiality. Work will focus around preparing agendas, taking minutes and providing clear guidance to Councillors before decisions are reached and dealing with any actions arising.
As Parish Clerk and RFO you will also be responsible for managing the Council’s finances, presentation of the accounts, general record keeping and budgeting, and ensuring compliance with regulations applying to Parish Councils. You will also be responsible for ensuring that PAYE employees are administered correctly with HMRC.
