Bishops Cannings Parish Council



The Parish Council is seeking a highly motivated individual for the vacancy of Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer.

Bishops Cannings has nearly 2.200 registered electors with a new housing development of 230 currently being built. The annual precept is presently set at £45,250.

The job is part time with an average of 8 hours per week, with the salary in accordance with the National Joint Salary Scale LC2, salary points 26-29, depending upon experience and relevant qualification such as CiLCA (Certificate in Local Council Administration). A pension entitlement is available, if applicable, to the applicant.

This position is currently home based and will require access to office space and broadband connection. Bishops Cannings Parish Council will provide the successful applicant with a computer, printer and mobile phone. You will be reimbursed for all consumable expenses which arise. This opportunity would be ideal for an existing clerk who wishes to expand their expertise.

The successful applicant will have a flexible, motivated outlook and should be confident with minute taking, dealing with correspondence and the public. A working knowledge of Parish Council procedures and administration is preferable, but not paramount, as training will be provided for the right candidate, in addition to the management of the Parish newsletter, website and social media. Good literacy and IT skills are essential to the position as are the personal qualities of integrity, discretion, objectivity and impartiality.

The Clerk, who is also the Responsible Financial Officer, is responsible for managing the Council’s finances, including the preparation of annual accounting statements. The Council meets, primarily in the Village Hall, on the second Thursday of every month apart from August.
