CLERK TO THE PARISH COUNCIL

Idmiston Parish Council is seeking a new Clerk from June 2018. The role is approximately 25 hours per week, working from home and lends itself to be worked flexibly around other commitments. This role is very rewarding as you play your part in the smooth running of our Parish community and involves regular communication with parishioners and Council members.

Role Overview

The point of contact for all council business, collecting mail and responding to email, correspondence and telephone calls.

The post holder will be the Council’s Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO). As such you will keep accounts of outgoing expenditure and receipts and reporting expenditure to the council. The IPC uses on-line banking and basic accounting software (Scribe Accounts 2015).

The conditions of employment and remuneration will be based on the National Association of Local Council’s (NALC) recommendations and skills and experience.

Attendance is mandatory at IPC meetings (usually on the 2nd Monday of every month in the evening. The Clerk has responsibility for the agenda and the minutes and may also be required to attend ad hoc committee meetings.

Additional responsibility for village cemetery management. This is a very small part of the role, primarily administrative and very occasional.

Training will be given on specific job requirements.

Your salary is in accordance with the current NJC SCP 24 of £11.643/hr, equivalent to £15,135.81 annually. Pension contributions are also made by the IPC in addition.

A parish laptop and printer will be provided for use by the successful applicant. The successful applicant will receive a handover from the incumbent.

Required Skills and Experience:

Scheduling and coordinating meetings, minute taking.

Management of correspondence.

Good working knowledge of MS Office, especially MS Word and Excel

Experience of basic record-keeping and accounting.

Good communication and inter-personal skills.

An Advantage

Knowledge of local authority procedures and simple maintenance of websites.
